Thunder JO Volleyball is located in Burnsville, Minnesota. A Twin Cities club volleyball organization that takes pride in developing well-rounded athletes.
Coaching Experience
Since 1991 I have coached in Jr. High, H.S. and JO volleyball programs; being a head coach, an assistant coach and a volleyball fan. I have most recently been a part of Club Tonka Volleyball with 15’s, 16’s, and 13’s; and the 10th Grade Coach at Washburn H.S. (2014-2017 seasons). Last season, I got to enjoy being a fan and dad of the Thunder 12’s team. I have attended many coaching clinics, and completed certification for a coaching license, as part of my teaching credentials. As a teacher, I enjoy contact with young people after school in extra-curricular activities.
Playing Experience
As an adult in my early 20’s I started playing volleyball with friends outdoors on the grass and sand. Then I played many years indoors at the BB and A levels as a setter, a defensive specialist, (before there was a libero position) and a right side hitter in the NC Region.
Coaching Philosophy
I am a coach that centers my attention on the athlete and the team. I strive to challenge them mentally and physically as well as to make sure they enjoy the sport now and gain confidence so that they will continue to participate in it in the future. If they enjoy what they are doing, they will do better and be more willing to ask for my help in coaching them. As a coach I want my teams to improve through hard work and togetherness. I don't expect perfection, but I do expect maximum effort. I hope that my teams will aim for a quality performance each time they participate. Winning is not as important as trying hard! My athletes learn this principle and carry it into their academic and social spheres of life.
