Good Evening Players and Parents,

For those of you who are staying at the hotel, Ali and I will be in the lobby for temperatures and symptom checks at 3:00 PM. If you are driving to the National Volleyball Center, please arrive at 3:30PM. Coach Ali and I will be by the entrance doors at the NVC to do temp and symtpom checks. When you are checked in head to court three. If the match is over you can start unpacking/getting kneepads & shoes on in the gym.

Athletes bring both Jerseys both days. Though we play later in the day, we would highly recommend that you get to bed at reasonable time and wake up at a reasonable time. Sticking to a routine is very helpful :)

Lets get ready to have a fun weekend!!

Thunder VB: COVID-19 Reminder
by posted 04/14/2021

Hi Parents & Players,

First of all I want to continue to thank everyone for all you've done to make this a GOOD season despite all of the challenges with Covid protocols, lack of spectators at tournaments, lack of team and parent bonding opportunities, etc.  It has certainly been a difficult season for everyone in the Thunder family.  We are so thankful though that we've been able to coach and play in tournaments this year!

Last night I did hear from a player that 60-70 student's had been sent home from school because they were exposed to someone at school (who went to school after being tested, but hand not received results - unfortunately the results came back positive).  Unfortunately Thunder has been indirectly impacted on 2 different teams.  On one team there were 2 players who tested negative but were exposed, and 1 player on a different team.  Both of these players are now in quarantine for 14 days, and will be missed at the upcoming tournaments!

PLEASE continue to do all you can to limit/reduce your exposure (masks, distancing, etc.).  And as always if you have been exposed or have symptoms stay home. We know that it has been a LONG road, and hopefully we are close to getting back to "normal".

On Sunday, we will be placed in either the gold, silver, or bronze playoff bracket. We will send an updated email on Saturday to give you the exact times and court numbers. Players will stretch as a team and then we will be done for the day.

  • Teams provided a spectator attendance list for each day which includes the names and phone numbers of any spectators in attendance in case contact tracing is needed.
  • When a spectator arrives, he/she should report to the Site Director table at the facility and check in - the spectator will be given their wristband at that time.
  • If someone is NOT on the spectator list, they cannot enter.

Hi parents & players,

We have two practices this week:

  • Monday (1/11): Arrive at 4:45pm - Pick up at 7:30pm [Nicollet Middle School]
  • Friday (1/15): Arrive at 5:45pm - Pick up at 8:30pm [Nicollet Middle School]

We are looking forward to preparing for our first power league competition! We do not know when we play on Saturday, but will usually find out the Wednesday before the playdate. We will send out another email once we know the exact playing times. I did want to share the information that Northern Lights sent to us regarding their tournament/covid policies. See email below:

== Format ==

  • Until there is a change in the government mandate, the overall format of playdays will be different in 2021 due to COVID-19.  For those of you who participated in the Northern Lights Fall League, the format will be very similar.
  • Masks will be worn by everyone at all times.  This includes players while they are playing.
  • There will no longer be an AM and PM wave.  Instead, we will still host 4 team pools, but those pools will begin play at 8am, 12pm or 4pm (it is most likely that your teams will play at 8am or 12pm).  The doors will open for these new waves 30 minutes before play is scheduled to begin.  If there are still teams from the previous wave on your court, we ask that you wait on the mezzanine until the court is clear before you head downstairs.
  • 4 team pools will play on two courts. The schedule will be play, play, 20 minute break, play.
  • All teams in the 4 team pool will play each other.  An R1 will be supplied.  There will be no work teams (no R2, no line judges, etc.)
  • Every team will need to arrange for one scorekeeper per day.  This scorekeeper is usually a parent, but can also be a manager or injured player.  This person will keep a simplified scoresheet at the table or will be asked to run the scoreboard.  Please note:  if your team fails to bring a scorekeeper, you are still responsible for the assigned scorekeeping duty assigned to your team. A coach or player from your bench will be asked to fulfill that duty if you fail to bring a scorekeeper.
  • Only one scorekeeper per team per day will be allowed.  If a scorekeeper cannot perform his/her duty the entire day, it is suggested you find another scorekeeper.
  • Matches will be timed.  It is imperative that we keep to the schedule to ensure the safety of everyone who is participating.
  • When you are done with your day of play, please gather your belongings and exit the building quickly.  There should be no long team meetings held at the warehouse after you finish.  We want to minimize the amount of time the outgoing and incoming waves are exposed to one another.

== Front Door Entry ==

  • The front doors of Midwest Volleyball warehouse will be locked and monitored by our front door staff.
  • Upon entry, every single person will be asked if (1) they are experiencing any COVID-like symptoms and (2) if they have been exposed to anyone experiencing COVID-like symptoms.  Please do not allow any player, coach or scorekeeper to enter the building or participate in Power League who you know is showing symptoms of COVID-19 or has potentially been exposed.  If there is any question whether your team or your player should participate, please email the Northern Lights office at   to ask.
  • Every person entering the building will also have their temperature checked.
  • Scorekeepers will need to sign waivers and sign-in when they enter the building.  One scorekeeper per team per day will be allowed.
  • Coaches will need to sign-in when they enter the building.  Two coaches per team will be allowed.

== Spectators ==

  • There will be no spectators allowed inside the building.  No one other than R1 officials, players, coaches and scorekeepers will be allowed inside the building for any reason.
  • There is the potential that we will be streaming the matches.  This has not yet been finalized.

== Food ==

  • Concessions will not be provided.  There is very little time to sit and eat with the new format as it is.
  • Any food brought into the building should be limited to quick, snack-like foods.
  • Any food that is eaten should be done so in a COVID-safe manner.  For example, players should not be walking around the building with their mask-off eating a protein bar.  We ask that the coaches for each team be responsible for ensuring situations like this do not happen.
  • There will not be any large amounts of food allowed into the building - no birthday parties, no communal veggie trays, boxes of treats, etc.

== Miscellaneous ==

  • Trainers will be provided.

Thank you for taking the time to read this email. Let us know if you have any questions or if you (1 parent) would like to volunteer to be a scorekeeper. Have a great night!

4-2 Rotations
by posted 01/08/2021

Hi players,

My apologies for missing practice tonight! I know that you went over rotations tonight, so I wanted to follow up with a PDF document to help you study. I know rotations can seem very overwhelming at first, so we hope this helps! Eventually you will be able to do them in your sleep. Practice these rotations with the dixie cups that Jeri provided. Let me know if you have any questions! :)

14-2 Practices
by posted 12/31/2020

Parents & Players,

We have two practices this week. The website will show the date and location of practice. The start time will be when we are scheduled for gym time. If the practice is an early practice we want the girls to be there 15 minutes prior to the start time. If it is a later practice then we will most likely will do our mental training prior to practice.

Tuesday (1/5): Arrive at 5:45pm - Pick up at 8:30pm [Nicollet Middle School]

Friday (1/8): Arrive at 5:45pm - Pick up at 8:30pm [Nicollet Middle School]

All players MUST be wearing a mask when entering the building and will be required to wear the mask during the whole practice. They must also continue wearing the mask until they are picked up. Please help encourage your players if they struggle with wearing masks. This is something that will be critical to keep teammates and coaches healthy and one way to help our season continue.

We want everyone to know what our expectations are regarding our COVID Screening. We will be taking temperatures at the door and asking if the girls have any symptoms (see below), traveled out of the country, or if they have been exposed to anyone with COVID. If any of these are positive we will not be letting your player practice and they will need to contact you to come back and pick them up.

COVID Symptoms:

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea

Please do NOT send your player if they have symptoms, been exposed or traveled out of the country, or have a temp. We DO want to know as soon as possible if your player is sick and will not be attending practice. Our expectation is that your player will text or email us if they are able, and if not then a parent or guardian.

If you have any questions or need anything else please let us know.
